The girl suffered second degree burns to her face, shoulders and back, when Aniya Grant Stuart, 12, threw the water over her to mimic a prank popular on social media.

Jamoneisha said she is feeling 'so great', but her road to recovery will be a long one.

Ebony Merritt said her daughter will have to be homeschooled for a few months while she continues to heal.

'Her arm is still raw, it hasn't healed yet,' Meritt told New York Daily News. 'And she can't go outside in the sun.'

'It's going to take maybe about six months for all her color to come back in.'

Meritt posted photos on Facebook of Jamoneisha beaming at home on Friday.

'Can't you see the look on her face. She's in good spirits,' Meritt wrote in the caption.

'She's great she want to thank all of y'all for the love that you showed her.'

Jamoneisha revealed that Aniya and two other friends had threatened to prank her if she fell asleep on the night of August 7.

The girls were having a sleepover at Aniya's house, but after dancing Jamoneisha felt tired and fell asleep on her couch.

Jamoneisha suffered second degree burns after three friends decided to prank her by pouring the boiling hot water on her body as she slept

She awoke to incredible pain as her face burned from the boiling water.

Meritt said Aniya filled a cup with boiling water before pouring it on Jamoneisha's head, neck, face and chest.

Aniya and the girls had attempted to recreate the 'Hot Water Challenge', a popular prank on YouTube where people film themselves throwing boiling water on friends.

Shernett Panton, Aniya's mother, said the incident occurred at around 4am.

Following the incident she gave Jamoneisha ice and had her take a cold shower.

Panton told New York Daily News her daughter was retaliating after Jamoneisha threw cold water on her earlier in the day.

'They always prank each other. My daughter was sleeping and Jamoni poured cold water on Aniya.

'My daughter was like, "OK, if you’re gonna do a prank on me, I’m gonna prank you back."

'But my daughter — I don’t know what she was thinking — boiled hot water and poured it on Jamoni’s face,' she said.

Jamoneisha said the girls claimed it was an accident and gave her a 'half-hearted apology' while telling her to 'stop yelling and buggin'.

Aniya was reportedly taken into custody afterwards and the case is being handled by family court because she is a minor.

Panton condemned Aniya's behavior but said: 'What she did was really wrong, but it’s too much right now.

'My daughter is 12. Everybody makes mistakes.'

The horrifying incident has also sparked an angry row between the girls' mothers.

Aniya's mother claimed Ebony threatened her after the incident.

Ebony earlier shared photographs of her daughter's injuries online in an attempt to show children how dangerous the prank is.

'I can't take it down. I need for these kids to know how serious this is,' Merrit said.

Jamoneisha's mother said the other girls had been bullying her daughter and that they often picked on her.

She said her daughter is 'confused' and 'upset' by the attack.

'She's very sad. She's emotionally messed up. She don't understand why they did that to her. She thought they was her friends.'

'I was told that they didn't like her. And they just been bullying her,' Merrit told Spectrum News 1.

Meritt believes all three girls and Panton should be arrested.

'The mother is just as involved as the other kids,' she told the Daily News.

'This happened at 4am, but they didn't come to my house until 5.30.'

'That means she was there for an hour and a half while they were trying to cover their tracks.'

The 12-year-old girl who “pranked” her friend by pouring boiling water on her face tried to kill herself after she realized the severity of what she had done.
“My daughter tried to stab herself with a knife,” said mom Shernett Panton, 34, on Thursday. “It was a prank — not a good prank. But after she saw what she did to (Jamoneisha) was really wrong, she tried to kill herself.”
What’s more, 12-year-old Aniya Grant Stuartwas allegedly choked by 11-year-old Jamoneisha Merritt‘s mother, who came to the Pantons’ apartment to shout threats on Thursday.
“I’m going to cut your face, you f—ing b—-!” Ebony Merritt screamed at Panton. “I’m going to burn your f—ing house down! You let this happen to my daughter!”
Panton said that her daughter and Jamoneisha, who they knew as Jamoni, were good friends and that Jamoneisha had practically moved into their apartment. She said that the two girls pranked each other all the time.
“They always prank each other,” said Panton. “My daughter was sleeping and Jamoni poured cold water on Aniya. My daughter was like, ‘OK, if you’re gonna do a prank on me, I’m gonna prank you back.’
“But my daughter — I don’t know what she was thinking — boiled hot water and poured it on Jamoni’s face.”
Jamoneisha was rushed to Harlem Hospital’s burn unit, and Rev. Robert Rice prayed with her, along with her mother and grandmother, in the hospital room.
“She’s doing fine, she’s strong,” said Rice. “Her spirit is strong. I gave her a hug, and she’s smiling.”
Meanwhile, Aniya is under suicide watch at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center, according to her mother.
“What she did was really wrong, but it’s too much right now,” Panton said. “My daughter is 12. Everybody makes mistakes.”

Yeah, what's not fair is every occupation gets formal training it seems, but the parents. By societal design, in hopes that we lose our most precious element- the future.
Children do make mistakes, adults commit offenses. If people had to take the whole weight for their seeds, they might take them more seriously.

I AGREE THAT CHILDREN DO NOT GET ALL INFORMATION EDUCATION OR OTHERWISE THROUGH PARENTAL KNOWLEDGE. I ALSO AGREE THAT AS PARENTS IN THIS ERROR IT IS EXTREMELY VITAL TO MONITOR OUR CHILDREN'S INTAKE ON COMPUTER TIME & SCREEN TIME AS WELL AS WHAT THEY ARE LOOKING UP! LIKE YOU SAID & EVENS VALIDATED MY POINT MORE ~ WHEN CHILDREN TO PHENOMENAL PARENTS ARE UP ( I SURE AM) ~ FRONT & CENTER READY WITH OPEN ARMS TO ACCEPT THE HONOUR OF MOLDING THE SUCESS IN THAT SAID CHILD!! HOWEVER WHEN THINGS TURN FOR THE WORST SUDDENLY ?????? WE DON'T HAVE A CLUE?? It STARTS WITH PARENTAL TRAINING!! IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PARENTS TO INSTILL THE FUNDAMENTAL CORE ~GOD~VALUES~MORALES~ DISCIPILINE~ LOVE~AFFECTION~REWARDS. IT IS NOT THE JOB OF ENTERTAINERS TO BE A ROLE MODEL FOR OUR CHILDREN~THE TEACHERS CAN ONLY DO SO MUCH NOW IF A CHILD REFUSES TO COMPLY THEN EVENTUALLY THEY ARE GOING TO BE CAUGHT UP IN THE SYSTEM IF THE PARENTS DON'T TAKE THE NECESSARY STEPS WHEN THE SIGNS ARE CLEARLY GIVEN SO THAT SAID CHILD WOULD NOT END UP BEING FEED TO THE WOLVES BY THEIR OWN PARENTS!! IF THERE IS NO SIGNIFICANT CONSEQUENCES TO THE ACTION OF MALICIOUS ACT THEN I'M AFRAID THE WOLVES ALREADY STARTED CIRCLING THEY JUST DON'T SEE IT YET! GOD'S SPEED!!

No, children get the bulk of their education information thru their parent providers. People should continue to take the info transfer that children get more seriously. They wanna reap the rewards when children achieve success, resources like children should be protected, guided not fed to the heartless wolves.

The 12 yr old is fully capable of standing in the courts for her actions. 12 yr old can get prosecuted for murder! This is a HUGE part of the issues & the reason why this generation have a MASSIVE ABHORRENT MALICIOUS & CRUEL ACTS OF CRIME BEING CARRIED OUT BY MINORS! They live in a society where the ASSUMPTION OF THEIR AGE is an AUTOMATIC PROTECTION OF ANY SEVERE CONSEQUENCES FOR THEIR POOR CHOICE'S~DECISIONS OR LACK THEREOFF & PATENTS/PARENT ALSO!! Not all however a VAST AMOUNT! This case SHOULD IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM BE TREATED OR TAKEN LIGHTLY!! I am appalled that the mother of the PERPETRATOR IS CLAIMING "MISTAKE" which by definition is ~ An action or judgement that is misguided or wrong. " MALICIOUS" ~ ma·li·cious
məˈliSHəs/Submit
adjective
characterized by malice; intending or intended to do harm.
"malicious destruction of property"
synonyms: spiteful, malevolent, evil-intentioned, vindictive, vengeful, malign, mean, nasty, hurtful, mischievous, wounding, cruel, unkind; More
Putting water in a pot TO BOIL ON THE STOVE THE WAIT FOR IT TO BOIL ~ TURN THE STOVE OFF THEN CONTINUE OUT HER INTENTIONS IS A " MISTAKE" OR " MALICIOUS"??? WHEN DID OUR SOCIETY STARTED FEELING MORE FOR THE PERP THAN THE VICTIM??? THAT PARENT SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE AS WELL!! YOU WERE THE ADULT WHO TOOK THE RESPONSIBILITY OF ANOTHER CHILDS LIFE IN YOUR HANDS WHEN YOU AGREED FOR THE SLEEP OVER!!! IT WAS ULTIMATELY YOUR RESPONSIBILITY BOTTOM LINE!! SO I ASKED MYSELF THIS QUESTION WHEN I INITALLY READ THIS TRADGEY! WHAT MADE "HER DAUGHTER" COMFORTABLE ENOUGH TO FATHOM THE THOUGHT TO CARRY OUT AN ACT LIKE THAT WITH THE MOM PRESENT?? BEINGTHAT COMFORTABLE TO DO SO WHAT ARE THE DYNAMICS IN THAT HOUSE HOLD TRULY LIKE?
Comment by Jerome S on August 12, 2017 at 6:15pm
It is now that I believe that the parent of the boiler, should be addressed and take the brunt. They definitely knew that this act would not be going over well. ! The child has 6- years left to grow the frunt door up. Parents should be seeing to this, or seeking help when its not going good.

Fang key word "me or my wife " the most important thing in your comment, ask your self how many can say that but have a bunch of kids, when you have 2 parents raising kids one will raise different awareness to the situation, and thats you make good decision and raise good kids, those idiots women dont realize there is a reason why it takes two people to make a baby, it dont matter how much dildos, vibrators, sex toys they have they still cannot get pregnant, they can sleep with their girlfriend it will be a no no, i talk strictly to women because they hold the key of pregnancy no matter how many excuses they make, a man cannot get a woman pregnant unless she allows him to, and a woman have the means to protect her self from getting pregant

My daughter is 12 and she doesn't do sleepovers period. She sees her friends at school 5 days per week that's good and if she is going out with her friends and there parents, me or my wife must be there with her... because one truly never knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men...(Mankind). Many of these young kids don't know JESUS because they wasn't thought by there parents, who don't know JESUS themselves...so these kids don't understand true love or the value of life. I pray for that little girl that she will have a speedy recovery.

folks stop watching reality shows, focus in the everyday news whether its 6pm or 11pm is not only one case, i just stated the other girl who died last week, if its not one thing its another so lets honest yes there are a few parents doing their job, but 95% of them are not concern, what about the mother who was driving around for 2 days with the body of the 11 year old until she got caught dragging the body to the woods, lets not make any excuses it will not help the kids
