Adele was the big winner at the Grammys on Sunday night, walking away with five awards including Album of the Year. As a result, the British singer has been the victim of backlash from fans who felt Beyoncé should have taken home the award for her critically acclaimed project Lemonade. Even Adele seem surprised by the win, as she addressed in her heartfelt acceptance speech. The singer reportedly broke her newest Grammy in two so that she could gift half of it to Beyoncé.
There are some artists, however, who feel that the “Hello” singer was well deserving in her Grammy success. Rock guitarist Carlos Santana recently discussed the controversial decision in an interview with AAP, and when asked about Adele, his remarks were glowing. “I think Adele won because she can sing”, said Santana, before going on to explain that that he supports Adele because “she doesn’t bring all the dancers and props, she can just stand there and she just stood there and sang the song and that’s it, and this is why she wins.”
When asked about Beyoncé, Santana’s views were less . “With all respect to our sister Beyoncé, Beyoncé is very beautiful to look at and it’s just more like modeling kind of music– music to model a dress.” He went to say that the “Formation” artist is “not a singer, singer, with all respect to her.” Check out Beyoncé Grammy-winning video below.
