Meanwhile, Mayweather's opponent McGregor also partied hard after the fight with his own fans at the lavish Encore Beach Club.

29-year-old McGregor, who arrived at the club around 3am, supplied his entourage with free drinks to the value of £77,643.

McGregor is assured of $30m (£23.3m) from the fight - still 10 times his highest purse in UFC - but that is expected to rise to $75m (£58.2m) once the extras are added.

Conor McGregor Discusses Floyd Mayweather, Racism Accusations, Paulie Malignaggi, 100M Payday, Being On Welfare 4 Years Ago {VIDEO}

Floyd Mayweather Jnr defeats Conor McGregor

Floyd Mayweather harked back to his first professional pay cheque after his hugely lucrative final outing against Conor McGregor on Saturday night.

The 40-year-old insists the 10th-round stoppage of the Irish mixed martial arts fighter at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas marks the end of his professional career.

It took his professional record to 50 wins from 50 fights, surpassing the great Rocky Marciano, and further secured his financial future. Reports indicated he would earn a minimum of £78million from the McGregor fight, to add to his estimated pre-fight net worth of £263million.

Mayweather took time to reflect after the fight on how his career in the paid ranks began.

“I can remember turning professional, I went to (promoters) Top Rank, and I saw the cheque,” the American said.

“I was like ‘damn, I’ve never seen anything like that in my life’. I come from poverty, from the inner city.

“The cheque was only 100,000 dollars, but to me, it was like 100 million dollars.

“I’d never seen those types of numbers. ‘Hood rich’ to me is 30,000 dollars, 40,000 dollars, 60,000 dollars.

“Everything Top Rank said I didn’t hear, I just wanted to sign on the dotted line and get the cheque. I thought I was the richest man in the world at 19, receiving 100,000 dollars.”

Mayweather has retired before, only to be lured out. He was out of boxing following his defeat of Oscar De La Hoya in 2007 but swiftly agreed to fight Ricky Hatton, before another period of inactivity followed. He had not fought for almost two years before the McGregor bout, with his previous outing being the win over Andre Berto which matched Marciano’s 49-0 record.

Ireland’s McGregor had a superior commercial appeal to any other potential opponent, and even with Saturday’s fight proving the mismatch many had long feared, Mayweather revealed it was the money involved that motivated his return.

“I did walk away from the sport before,” he said.

“(I was) very comfortable: I didn’t have to come back. We do foolish things sometimes but I’m not a damn fool.

“If I see an opportunity to make 300 million dollars, 350 million dollars, in 36 minutes, why not? I had to do it. But this is the last one. You guys have my word. I had a great career, I can’t complain about anything.”

The 29-year-old McGregor was accused earlier in the week by Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather Promotions’ chief executive, of modelling himself on the American, and he similarly revelled in the fact he has earned a reported career-high purse of a minimum of £23million.

He said: “We count up the gate, we count up the pay-per-views, we count up the merchandise, we count up the sponsorship revenue, and I send auditors in there; we count up every single dime.

“I don’t know how I’ll spend it. I’ve so many ventures that are bringing in revenue for me. I’m building brands: a suit line, a fashion line that I’m delving into. The whisky that I’m playing into.

“That’s not even including any endorsement deals that I have. Money’s good for me: I’m very blessed and happy with the position I’m in.

“I’m in the stage of ‘forever’ money. As long as I make smart decisions, and don’t do anything stupid, I’m set for life.”

Conor McGregor Covers GQ, Talks Floyd Mayweather: "If I Hit That Man His Head's Going Into The Bleachers." Wants To See Khloe Kardashian's "Big Fat A$$ In The Flesh"

Ahead of his highly anticipated fight against Floyd Mayweather, Conor McGregor discusses the journey to the fight, fatherhood, being accused of racism, his expected $100 million payday, the Paulie Malignaggi drama and much, much more.

Big Upsets At UFC 196: Nate Diaz Chokes Conor McGregor Out. Meisha Tate Defeats Holly Holm To Win Belt (Video/Pics)

UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor is on top of the world right now. The 28-year old Irishman is the biggest draw and highest paid fighter in mixed martial arts. He's also about to become a father. His longtime girlfriend, Dee Devlin, is expecting their first child in May 2017.

McGregor would be even happier if a much talked boxing match with Floyd Mayweather Jr. comes to fruition.

Most boxing pundits don't believe The Notorious can win, but he's convinced that Mayweather will fall when one clean shot is landed.

During an interview with Zach Baron of GQ, for the publication's Spring 2017 issue, McGregor makes a case for why he would emerge victorious in a match against the undefeated, future boxing Hall of Famer.

GQ: Would you have to do anything different to be competitive in boxing? Floyd Mayweather's been fighting every day of his life for 40 years.

Conor McGregor: “Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's great. Except you use the term ‘fighting’ differently, because he's not been fighting for 40 years. He's been boxing for 40 years. There's a big difference between boxing and fighting. Boxing is limited fighting with a specific rule set. Fighting is true, where you can do anything.”

GQ: But we're talking about his rule set, right?

McGregor: “Yeah, of course we are. We're talking about boxing. That's it. But again, age waits for no man. He's 40 years of age. He's a little…he's got a little head on him. Honestly, my fist is bigger than his head. I sleep people. I put people unconscious. I'm stating facts. If I hit that man, his head is gonna go into the bleachers. You understand that? If I crack that little head of his, it's gonna go clean off his shoulders and up into the bleachers.”

GQ: So is Floyd Mayweather the guy you're hoping to fight?

McGregor: “I mean, that's the one that everyone wants, that's the one that makes the most sense. But I've no problem going and slapping the head off one of his opponents that he couldn't finish. All he does is decisions. He can never stop them. So all I have to do is pick some schmuck out that he only could decision, bounce the left hand off his dome, sleep him, and then there you go: It's already done.”

Mystic Mac has one more mission he'd like to accomplish during his time in America. He wants to have an up close look at the glorious backsides of the Kardashian sisters, Khloe in particular.

McGregor: “Maybe I'll search for Khloé's big fat a$$—she's been floating around Malibu. I don't give a f*c* about them. I just like to see them in the flesh.”

GQ: You mean…the Kardashians?

McGregor: “Yeah, just see what the big fat a$$es on them look like.”

GQ: Just to…admire them from a distance?

McGregor: “Not about admiring. Admire? Never. What's the saying? Never put the p*ssy on a pedestal, my friend. I just want to see it. I want to see them.”

From his traditional perch at the side of the Octagon on Saturday night, UFC president Dana White could only watch as piles of millions burned in front of him.

Holly Holm … choked out. Conor McGregor … choked out. A pair of the sport’s biggest and most bankable stars suffering stunning upsets, turning UFC 196 into a carnage of commerce. Suddenly a year of easy-to-make mega-fights became more complicated, from the uncertainty of Holly Holm-Ronda Rousey rematch, to McGregor headlining July’s historic UFC 200.

“In 16 years in this business, the one thing you don’t do is plan anything out,” White said after. “Because you don’t know.”

White wasn’t in tears. He was stoic and professional and part of that is because over that slow grind of taking an outlaw organization into a billion-dollar global sports brand, he’s always focused on the long game, not the short-term buck. This is part of the deal.

Make no mistake: the UFC crapped out Saturday night in Vegas. The results were nothing the bottom line wanted; this despite an $8.1 million gate and what White was claiming would be a huge pay-per-view number.

That payout will be a nice salve, but the wound is still there. The UFC was on the verge of what would likely have been its biggest year ever. It may still get there. It just isn’t simple.

That’s the fight game though. Nothing ever is.

If you’re not tied to the UFC’s bottom line though, then this was actually a night to celebrate the sport and what its premier promotion is about.

UFC 196 was a testament to being daring, giving fans what they want, and throwing caution to the wind rather than protect and posture for future profits. It was about building trust with fans. It was everything boxing too often fails to be. It was everything that so many other MMA promotions never stick with.

White probably could have sat Holm until Rousey was ready for a rematch. Holm stunned mixed martial arts in November by knocking Rousey out. When Rousey recovered from that beating and was back from filming a couple movies, then the rematch was projecting as the biggest bout in MMA history, two million buys or more. September looked perfect.

Instead, Holm pushed to be sent back out there to defend her bantamweight title, and in doing so she faced a tough Miesha Tate. Holm led going into the fifth round and controlled it until the final two minutes, when a desperate Tate took Holm down, cinched a choke under her chin and survived a wild flip to eventually put Holm, who refused to tap out, to sleep.

“I guess in my mind, I wanted to fight,” Holm said of why she wouldn’t quit. “[I was thinking] ‘I’m going to get out of this, I’m going to get out of this.’ It went too far.”

She regrets letting up and letting Tate in. She doesn't regret taking the fight that likely cost her plenty. White said Tate will defend her belt against Rousey next. Rousey has already defeated Tate twice. The Rousey-Holm rematch is now on the back burner, a huge payday hanging in the balance, especially if Tate beats Rousey this time. Who knows when Holm gets another crack.

“Everyone said, ‘Why are you taking this fight? You should wait for the rematch,” Holm said, explaining her thinking. “You know what, I’m in this [business] to fight.”

Then there was McGregor, the relentlessly trash-talking Irishman who’s turned himself into an international sensation. After capturing the featherweight (145 pound) belt in December, he boldly cast a course where he’d move up to 155 pounds and take the lightweight title from Rafael dos Anjos. But two weeks ago, dos Anjos came up with an injured foot.

Rather than back out all together or bring in some tomato can, McGregor agreed to be paired up with Nate Diaz, who wasn’t just taller and longer but due to a lack of a training camp needed the fight to be held at 170 pounds. That meant McGregor was going up 25 pounds in two and a half months, plus fighting a guy who regardless of weight is known for his profound ability to take a punch.

McGregor talked his way into being a heavy betting favorite, but across the first round realized that the huge shots that normally felled a featherweight were bloodying Diaz but not burying him. He’d bit off more than he could chew.

“[Featherweights] crumble under those shots,” McGregor said. “Nate took them very well. It must take more than one, more than two, more than three [punches] to put the heavier man away.”

By the middle of round two, McGregor was out of energy from trying to knock Diaz out. He resorted to throwing single haymakers rather than combos. Eventually Diaz, through a face of crimson, found his timing and found McGregor with a huge left. The Irishman buckled, Diaz slapped his gloves together and a whole new fight was underway. About a minute later, McGregor was tapping out due to a lack of oxygen.

“It’s a bitter, bitter pill to swallow,” McGregor said.

McGregor said he will now return to 145 pounds and defend his title. It’ll still be big. It could’ve been bigger. George St. Pierre, the retired welterweight great, had flown in from Quebec for UFC 196 in a rare public appearance. White said he isn’t even sure St. Pierre wants to unretire, so this definitely wasn’t a gimmick to start the hype for a GSP-McGregor monster fight. Fine, but we know these things do tend to happen.

That isn’t happening now. If Diaz can lay waste to McGregor, then GSP wouldn’t be fair. It'd be a massacre. It would have made a big, big buck finding that out though.

“I took a shot,” McGregor said. “I went at it. I will never shy away from a challenge. I will never shy away from a defeat. I took the fight and it didn’t pay off. This is the fight business.”

More specifically, this is the UFC business. This is the business of having a money train like McGregor take on an outrageous challenge and risk his perfect UFC record, risk his aura of invincibility, risk the vision of him sprawled out on his back in the middle of the cage, overcome with exhaustion and emotion. It wasn't holding Holly Holm back, even if the greatest payday yet loomed.

“Tonight was one of those night, this is what this thing was built to be,” White said, trying to drape it in pride. “It was everything we talked about it was supposed to be. It was awesome.”

It was awesome. Costly, but spectacularly awesome.
