TWO BARBADIAN NATIONALS, RICHIE JASON BONETTE AND MARIA SHEPHERD, APPEARED IN COURT ON DRUG CHARGES JANUARY 22, 2015.
A Barbadian national has been fined EC$100,000 (One EC dollar =US$0.37 cents) after he pleaded guilty to being in possession of nearly three kilogrammes of cocaine.
Richie Bonnett was arrested at the George Charles Airport in January and found to be in possession of 2.8 kilogrammes of the drug with a street value of EC$84,000.
At the time of his arrest, Bonnett was in the company of Maria Shepherd also of Barbados, against whom the drug charges were dropped.
When he appeared in court on Thursday, Bonnett pleaded guilty to the charge of possession, and was fined EC$100,000 to be paid on or before July 30, 2015, failing which he will serve 18 months in prison.
He was reprimanded and discharged on the other charges relating to intent to supply and export of the illegal drug.
