A Rikers Island corrections officer has been hospitalized with a fractured spine after six Bloods gang members viciously attacked him.
Surveillance video captured the savage attack on the 39-year-old officer, which occurred on Saturday around 6.30pm in the George Motchan Detention Center on New York City's island jail complex.
'This is the most serious assault on a CO in perhaps years,' a jail source told Pix11.
Unions sources said the six inmates involved in the attack were Bloods gang members.
Video of the assault shows an inmate lunging to sucker punch the officer, who has not been publicly identified.

A swarm of other inmates pounce and begin punching and kicking the fallen officer before other officers rush to his aid.
It follows a Thanksgiving Day attack by three inmates on 31-year-old Captain Awais Ghauri in Riker Island's Otis Bantum Correctional Center.
In January, Mayor Bill de Blasio's administration said the George Motchan Detention Center would shutter by the end of summer.
The other eight corrections facilities on Rikers Island are set to shut down by 2027, the city said.

'Correction Officers work hard every day to help keep our city safe,' DOC Commissioner Cynthia Brann said in a statement after the latest attack.
'When any member of the Department of Correction is assaulted, everyone in our community should be outraged,' Brann continued.
'We are arresting anyone involved in this ruthless attack and we are working with the Bronx District Attorney's office to bring serious charges.'
